South Africa Suspended Agreements With Zimbabwe

South Africa Suspended Agreements With Zimbabwe

On Monday South African cricket authorities announced the suspension of all the bilateral agreements with Zimbabwe; as the political situation in Zimbabwe is getting worse day by day.

The agreement was made to conduct development and administrative programs between the countries. It also included the participation of Zimbabwe teams in CSA’s domestic competitions.

All of these good measures have been suspended till the next notice. Norman Arendse, who is the President of CSA, said to newsmen; “In the light of the worsening situation in Zimbabwe, CSA has reviewed its position in relation to Zimbabwe cricket" He recalled the roll of CSA in Zimbabwe cricket and added further, "In the past, CSA has defended Zimbabwe cricket against heavy odds, but the general situation in Zimbabwe has now made this untenable" The situation grew more intense on Sunday when opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai announced that he had decided not to take part in the coming run-off elections.

He told that the violence is mounting against his party supporters. The vote will be casted on Friday. The country is politically confronting difficult and critical situations at that time. Sanctions have already been imposed by United States, Britain and European countries.

A year before Australia banned their players from taking tour to Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe authorities called that decision at that time a “fascist ploy” and said that it would kill the local cricket.

This time the same kind of decision was made by South Africans. CSA said that this decision is only pertaining to Zimbabwe; all other activities will remain in progress as they are going and CSA will continue to comply with ICC in already scheduled matches.
