England had a chance to get onto the second position in the One Day International rankings. But it missed the chance to raise its status when the 5th and final match of the series versus South Africa was abandoned just after 3 overs on Wednesday.
England was already four up in that one day series. There was a chance of getting into 2nd position from 3rd one, with 5-0 whitewash if it happened so. Australia is standing on the first position.
England won the toss. They elected to bowl first. South Africa made 6 for one. Herschelle Gibbs dropped for 3. He was caught behind by a diving attempt made by wicketkeeper Matt Prior off Stuart Broad. Periodic cloudbursts then eliminated further play.
South Africa won the Test play 2-1. It was their 1st series victory in England since 1965.
