Pakistan Anticipating To Play One Day Series Offshore

25 August 2008
Pakistan is expecting to participate in One Day cricket in either Australia or South Africa. The news came after the ICC postponed the Champions Trophy. The tournament was first planned to take place in Lahore and Karachi. Shafqat Naghmi is the chief operating officer of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

He stated that the board had started discussions with South Africa and Australia about this tournament. He said that we believe that our team is in desperate need of exposure at international level. With the delay of the Champions Trophy, we think we can now play an offshore series with the participation and cooperation of other cricket playing nations.

Naghmi said that the South Africans have responded favourably and good to our offer. The reason is that, I think most of the countries are fully aware that delay of the Champions Trophy was a big happening for Pakistan cricket and it suffered a lot from that decision. The ICC rescheduled the tournament due to fears over security and safety matters in Pakistan.

Eight countries were going to participate. South Africa, Australia, England, New Zealand and the West Indies also did what others were doing made a way to the postponement of the tournament.
