Muhammad Asif Safely Returned Home

Pakistani fast bowler Muhammad Asif has been released from detention and reported to return back and reached his home. Few weeks ago, he was taken into custody by security at Dubai airport and received the allegation of keeping drugs with him. He was caught red handed when he reached Dubai in his way to Pakistan; earlier he left India for Pakistan in his flight of 1st June.

Authorities decided not to prosecute him for the reason that the offences against him don’t have enough significance and the case is too weak to pursue. He was suspected of carrying illegal drugs with him.

No favor was given to him and the decision was entirely made according to the land’s law; as we all know that the rules are strictly applied to everybody in United Arab Emirates (UAE) and there is zero-tolerance especially regarding drug offences. Asif arrived at Karachi on Friday’s morning and soon boarded a flight to Lahore.

PCB issued a statement earlier commenting on the decision of UAE authorities and appreciating it. It was stated; "We appreciate the professional manner in which this whole issue was dealt with by the Dubai Police, Prosecution Department and the UAE Authorities" Pakistani government also asked for the case records from Dubai government and details will be delivered in one to two days.

PCB stated regarding this as; "PCB intends to conduct an immediate inquiry into this matter, as per its policies and procedures, once the official records are received from the UAE authorities." Muhammad Asif was caught red-handed on Dubai airport.

He was having .24 grams of opium with him. It was stated by Dubai’s public prosecutor, Muhammad Al-Nuaimi in his statement given to Gulf News while announcing the decision of Muhammad Asif release. But in UAE law there is relaxation if the case is of minor status.

He explained this point further in his statement; "In certain cases and for a faster litigation process the public prosecution drops a case due to insignificance and deports the suspect."
