Michael Vaughan nominated for Central Contract

September 09 2008

Former skipper of England cricket team, Michael Vaughan has been nominated among a dozen other cricketers to be centrally-contracted for the upcoming year. Vaughan, (Age-33), was honored with a twelve month contract. Regardless of the unsatisfactory record in previous matches, in which he showed lack of form for Yorkshire since giving up the Test leadership previous month.

Michael Atherton is the only man who captained England on more times than the fifty-one Vaughan did. However, no other could be similar to him in terms of Test wins as captain. The time when he declared to quit from the captaincy, he stressed on his need to provide adequate ground for his position as a batsman in the team.At that time of decision, he was showing failed performance of 4 times in County Championship innings.

All the same, he distinctly stays in the plans of new skipper Kevin Pietersen. National selector Geoff Miller sustained Vaughan's agreement at a news conference at Lord's on Monday. This award of an England central contract to Michael Vaughan ponders the selectors' prospect about Michael. They believe that he has still a part to act in the England Test team over the next twelve months. This was stated by Miller.

He said that when we worked for the Ashes in 2009, we find that Michael's experience of previous Ashes tournaments and his superior game record versus Australia will make up a big plus to the squad.

Michael was man of the series in the 2002-03 Ashes tournaments. He took his country to the most unforgettable of wins over the Australians in 2005. Only one changed is made in the group of centrally-controlled players. That is in the bowling section, where Vaughan's Yorkshire team-mate Matthew Hoggard is substituted by Nottinghamshire's Stuart Broad.

Stuart has constituted speedy advancements over the past year. He conformed very well to the challenges of some Test and one-day international cricket. This was said by Miller. There are seven other cricketers also who have been presented England ‘increment’ contracts for the same time. These players are Tim Ambrose, Ravi Bopara, Samit Patel, Matt Prior, Owais Shah, Graeme Swann and Luke Wright.
