England agreed to play Winner-Takes-All Twenty20 Matches
SEARCH

This agreement is the part of efforts which Sir Allen Stanford is making to revive the West Indian cricket and stop its decline. He has been providing the funds and financing the twenty20 tournaments organized in Caribbean since 2006 with the prizing amount of $2m. Stanford Super Star team will be comprised of these players.

Sir Allen said that the players will get $20m in just one night. Allen strongly believes that twenty20 cricket will leave behind the football game in its popularity. This would be the most popular game of the world in next 10 years; if goes like that.

This series will expose cricket to the entirely new and different audience; who had never seen cricket. Twenty20 was introduced in England and is entirely the invention of English people. English People will get again the credit of taking it to the new levels. He said that we are working with England and Wales cricket board and planning to take cricket to its highest popularity level.

He said;

"We had to create something that had never been done before and take cricket to the previous level in the Caribbean"

Sir Allen Stanford first announced £2.5m for winner-takes-all match series and tended to organize this series in South Africa. But due to some scheduling problems it could not be possible. He then tempted India for this series and doubled the prizing amount but they also didn’t agree.

David Collier – Executive of England Cricket Board – said;

"It is wonderful to have such a warm endorsement from Sir Allen and it is testament to what we have been trying to do in the game."

Collier also said that these matches would be played only after having the sanction from International Cricket Council. He also said that these matches will not be given official status at all.
