M Asif: Drug Tests Showed Positive Results

The test showed positive results that Mohammad Asif used the banned substance in IPL tournament. That was stated by the organizers of IPL tournament. Last month 25 year old Mohammad Asif was taken into custody by Dubai security at Dubai Airport.

He was suspected for carrying illegal drugs with him. He was kept arrested for two weeks by Dubai authorities and then he was released and returned back to Pakistan after the decision made not to pursue the case further for its minor status. Asif denied all the news about his drug usage.

He said that he was totally amazed and shocked because he always remained extra cautious about this matter and never been involved in using the banned substance.

The Indian Premier League gave statement in which the league confirmed that they are confident in saying that the player who made the violation is Muhammad Asif. Now the option remained by Mohammad Asif is that he can ask to check “B” sample; the question is whether he should do that? If he does so, his case would be referred to the IPL’s drug tribunal of three men which also includes former Indian Captain Sunil Gavaskar.

Much depends upon the results, if it is positive than he would be ban for all the future IPL tournament matches not only this he would also probably receive sanctions from PCB.

Mohammad Asif played matches for Delhi Daredevil in the Twenty20 matches series which was a lucrative tournament. The series continued for more than a month starting in April and ending in June.

This news that Mohammad Asif test results come out positive about the addiction of illegal substances is the latest one among the incidents which took place in a previous short time and in which Mohammad Asif remained involved.

As we all know that in 2006 Mohammad Asif and his fellow cricketer Shoaib Akhter both were found involved in taking banned substance – Steroid Nandrolone. They were taken into account after failing in PCB internal drug test.

Both players were sanctioned to play for one and two years respectively, however this court’s decision was taken back on appeal and also criticized by other international level governing bodies. Last year, in 2007, he was again found involved in a quarrel in a dressing room, in which he was also struck hard by a bat by Shoaib, who was stopped to further continue

Twenty20 matches and sent back to Pakistan. In the running year he received two drug abuses and found involved in them. 25 year old Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Asif said that he would not take any step without consulting it with the PCB.
