Habibul Bashar who remained captain of Bangladesh in recent times has received the of 10 year ban. He was stunned by the decision. Not only he but twelve other cricketers also received that ban. All of these players were accused of and found playing in the unauthorized Indian Cricket League – ICL.
These reports came on Thursday.
On Wednesday the Bangladesh Cricket Board imposed restrictions for playing cricket on all cricketers who have signed with ICL. They are banned for 10 years. There decision was made keeping with the policies set by administrators in other cricket playing nations.
All of these countries declared the ICL as a rebel organization.
Bashar said that he was not expecting such kind of decision against him. He stated this while talking to the Dhaka-based Daily Star. He further said that this time period of ten years is too long and too harsh. I am not happy with this and cannot believe it.
He showed his willingness and intention to meet with the officials of governing body so that this matter could be resolved. He said that he will try to explain everything on his behalf.
Reports in the media came that the players contracting with ICL have signed for the amount of 200,000 dollars each. This agreement has been signed for a three-year period.
However ICL refused to show off publicly the financial details about this contract.
Bashar is a 36 year old most successful Test batsman of his country piling up the 3,026 runs on his record. He played 50 out of Bangladesh’s 53 Test matches. He said that it would not be a good thing on his record if he be called a rebel player.
He said that after achieving the fame in my country and playing for my country for a long time it would be painful for me to get a name of banned cricketer. He also said that there are some reasons behind contracting with ICL. Not only the money factor was involved because nothing could be more big thing than playing for or representing for own nation. |
