The ICC has introduced new principle in the cricket laws in a meeting summoned to make a debate on 2006-Oval Test match, which was played between England and Pakistan. By including that principle they changed that match result and declared it a draw match.
The strong pressure from Pakistan Cricket Board was also behind that decision.
The International Cricket Council, which is a cricket’s governing body – will approve it today by signing it as an official result.
This is quoted by person attending the annual meeting of the cricket council which is going to be held in Dubai this week.
The match results went in the favor of England at that time. The decision was made by umpire Darrell Hair after a long wait and then refusal from Pakistani team to return to the field.
Inzamam -ul-haq was captain at that time and decision not to play was made after the receiving the accusation of ball tempering by Hair that was later on dropped.
The title of forfeit was never ever given for any of Test match in its 129 year history. Hair is an Australian umpire and member of ICC’s panel of umpires. He was later on suspended from its membership because he was a part of the matter.
However he returned back for Test last month.
The result of that match series wouldn’t be affected for the reason England was leading that four-match series with 2-0. But England would be unhappy with its affects on ICC Test Championship ranking. Presently England is standing on the third position having 110 points just one more than South Africa.
